Just for Now Red Geraniums and a Kansas City Workshop by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Just for Now Red Geraniums
by Nancy Medina

SOLD
16X12
Oil on Archival Panel

Just for Now Red Geraniums is the newest painting on the easel in Flower Mound Studio, based on the batch of geraniums I cut after dark from my back yard container garden yesterday. Tonight I went out again, needing a fresh batch, but was smart enough this time to carry a small flashlight. And I promise I was not running with scissors in the dark, just in case my Mom is reading this....

I'm very excited to announce I will be holding my first workshop in my home state of Missouri June 21-23, 2013, in Lees Summit, near Kansas City. Kansas City ladies, I hope to see you there! Read more about my new workshop here....

The models are a little less than perky this morning...

Qiang Huang set this week's Daily Paintworks challenge as the "Color of Blue."  To add to the challenge the painting should be high key and no red or orange is to be used as a contrast.  I immediately thought of my husband's shirt.  I painted it on a panel with a black ground on it.  I like it!  Thanks for a great challenge!

Blue Monday Lilies Step by Step by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Blue Monday Lilies by Nancy Medina
10X8
Oil on Archival Panel

I decide what to paint each day as almost the last step before picking up the brush. I mix most of my colors directly on the canvas, with the color reaction occurring when the brush picks up the hue beneath and around where it touches the surface. Visit my art blog today to see this painting step by step, and hear more about how it was created.

I intentionally staged some orange on blue in Blue Monday Lilies, can you tell where I did that? You as the artist have the tools to create drama in your paintings, find opportunities in your floral setups to lay brilliant complements atop one another. Lay a stroke of pure color and fight the urge to blend it away. Don't turn down the volume, turn it up. Let your color sing!

SOLITUDE by Linda Popple

12x6 Oil on Panel

I hope y'all had a good Thanksgiving!  Mine was a week full of good food, laughter, and the best family ever!!  I love it when we can all be together.
Now it is time for a return to the easel.  For the past few weeks I've had a struggle.  It was wipe out after wipe out.  After a week without painting, I am hopeful that when I go to my studio tomorrow I will encounter a better day.
"Solitude" is one of my paintings that survived.

Love Always Lily and Rose Container Garden Painting by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Love Always Lily and Rose Garden
by Nancy Medina
36X24
Palette Knife/Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Love Always Lily and Rose Container Garden is the newest work in Flower Mound Studio, and was finished around 3 am. If it weren't for caffeine, I'm not quite sure I could have pulled this off! It's been a few days since I painted, and I just returned from one of the best Thanksgiving meals ever at Mom's house. My sisters and our family have so much to be thankful for, another year with Mom, being at the top of that list. Here's wishing you a wonderful holiday with lots of delicious things to eat and loved ones nearby!

Berry Rose Flower Painting by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Berry Rose by Nancy Medina
8X10
Oil on Panel

Today was the last day of my flower painting workshop in Irving, Texas, and we painted fast and loose and made white roses and holly berries bloom! With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, we shared some of our favorite must-have dishes that would be served next week. I am pretty sure I'm going to show up on Nancy Standlee's doorstep unannounced to sample one of the multiple chocolate pies she said she will be making! I told Carlos if he really loved me, he would learn to make pies and pastries. So far no luck. I'll keep you posted if he realized how truly serious I am about this...!

My next workshop is almost full so I sure hope to see you there! Click here for details....

New Growth Geraniums by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

New Growth Geraniums
by Nancy Medina
16X20
Oil on Museum Quality Linen Board

The geraniums in my yard are in full bloom, convinced that spring has arrived and they have months and months of sunshine ahead. I'm not going to tell them otherwise! I'm going to celebrate! New Growth Geraniums is the demo I created for the Associated Creative Artists of Dallas today, a nice group of professional painters right here in Big D. Thanks so much to Ann Rogers for her cordial invite to join this talented group!
