On The Rocks

Another attempt at my tool of choice. Go-o-o-l-l-l-ly. I could paint this
thing over and over again and still not capture its personality. For more
commentary, please visit: http://lorraineshirkus.blogspot.com.

  1. I'm beginning to have a whole new appreciation for my corkscrew! Love the almost abstract feeling of this one.

  2. I have so many varied thoughts about this very strong painting, Lorraine. I love the overall monochromatic feeling and that led me to see it as one of 2 "story" possibilities, it almost looks like it has been discarded, but with it being centered and its arm lifted, it appears to be begging for one more bottle of wine. My other reaction made me think of one of Michelangelo's unfinished sculptures (can't remember the title) where the figure is emerging from the marble, here the corkscrew could possibly be emerging from the background. Besides all that, I really like the varied texture here and the overall tone, can't wait to see this tool painted again!

  3. Thanks everybody! And, Angela . . . wow . . . you really look! I confess I had no emotional or rational intention for any kind of content but love that you found two interpretations. I would love to see something developing in that respect. There are wonderful artist interviews on paintingperceptions.com and a lot of terrific artists on Catherine Kehoe's blog: powersofobservation.com.
