AFTER THE STORM - James Parker (Texas Theme)

12 x 30 Acrylic on Canvas

Two of the 18, 726,412 things that I can think of offhand that remind me of
Texas are windmills and beautiful sunsets. Quite often, the most dazzling sunsets occur following the frequent afternoon thunderstorms. So I took the two and stuck em on a canvas. Since this a somewhat new style and format (design extends on wraparound edges) from how I normally paint, I wasn't sure how it would turn out. After I finished it, I looked at it and suddenly had an urge to go get a Shiner beer, so I guess it worked.

  1. Such strong vivid colors, full of drama, just like Texas. James, this is a wonderful first entry for our new blog.

  2. Fantastic, James!! You are right with number of Texas images! So hard to narrow them down. I like that you included two in this painting. I've seen that so many times and have always connected to it. Hope you enjoyed your beer - you deserved one! :-)

  3. This is going to be fun to see the many different Texas images we come up with. We do get beautiful sunsets here in the city, but I think those of you who live in wide open spaces probably have more frequent and vivid skies. Very, very nice, James, oh how I wish acrylics and I were "friends".

  4. James, I forgot to mention, thanks for the perfect Texas image of you kicking back after a hard day of painting, surrounded by a beautiful sunset, and a Shiner Bock or 2 in your hands!

  5. Great way to kick things off, James! Windmills are a classic Texas image. This one looks terrific silhouetted against that big Texas sunset.
