Beach Bums
May's challenge is a good one, and my contribution to it is this painting of a couple on the beach with their flip flops on. I hope to see a wide variety of shoes, boots and sandals on this post! Thanks for viewing....Kay

07/11/11 A Destin Morning
This is where I'd like to be. Warm breezes, cool morning, anticipating lots of fun during the day. This painting really called my name! So simple yet it can be challenging to paint! The sky and ocean have a lot of the same colors so I usually check a painting by turning it upside down! It really sharpens up a painting and any difficult shapes you can't quite get. Try it!

Bathing Beauty by Mitzi Easley

Bathing Beauty by Mitzi Easley
16x20, oil on panel
Our Texas beaches are just the best for people-watching. This precious little one's family spent the day set-up right next to ours last summer in Port Aransas. She was a busy little bee and thoroughly entertaining to watch. I knew the minute I saw her pink bathing suit reflected in surf that I'd paint her time and again. Happy May all!

When We Grow Up ... ? by Kirk Witmer
6x8" oil on archival panel
This little brother and sister seem to be standing here wondering ....
"When We Grow Up .... "
...will the beaches still be this clean? Will the water still be this clear? Will the sky still be this beautiful? Can you promise us that?

I spied this gentleman on the beach in Playa del Carmen last spring - a pretty good working chair for this month's theme, I think. These blue lounge chairs hold a special place in my heart as they are very common in Mexican resort towns and so they signal "vacation". I've painted them before - click here. Over the years, this is where we play games, read books, visit, nap, slather the kids in sunscreen. And, apparently, where this guy writes memos.

Catch of the Day by Mitzi Easley

Meet Walt. At the Port Aransas pier walking distance from our house, Walt was the first to wet a hook in the mornings and the last to leave. In a long line of fishing poles, he was about the only angler consistently catching. Lots of experience. So, no surprise, our 13-yr-old Lavagirl made fast friends with crusty 'ole Walt - that's where the action was. And from there on out, everytime he got a nibble, he'd yell out her name and she'd go running and Walt would let her reel that fish in. It was a great show for Mr. Right and me to watch in the mornings with our coffee or late in the evenings after dinner.

One last Summer post before we leave the month of July. There's "surfing" and then there's "surfing the internet"! This is from the beaches of Hilton Head.

I loved watching this little family. I could almost hear them waking their mother and begging to play on the beach before breakfast.

Sequanota Beach by Kay Wyne
Sequanota Beach8" x 10" Oil on Linen
I am thinking about the beach today...it is hot in Dallas and wishing I was up north, sitting on the beach at Sequanota Club in Charlevoix, Michigan. This painting is hanging at The Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas. It is framed up in a gold plein aire frame. If you are interested in this painting, please contact me. I hope you are staying cool...have an artful day!

Beach Time by Kay Wyne
Beach Time
9" x 12" Oil on Canvas
NSF - A Christmas gift for my in-laws.
I sent this painting to Ruth and Louie for a Christmas gift. It was a fun painting because of the shadows and the subject matter. My inspiration was a 1990's photograph and alot of memories from our summers in Charlevoix, Michigan. The beach at Sequanota Club was our afternoon hang-out. As my daugher pointed out, it was good that I put a few details in this painting...like the tennis shoes and laces, the bouys in the water, and Ruth's visor. I can feel the sun and sand when I look at this painting. I hope to go to the studio today and work on my bird nest. Happy Fourth of July to everyone...I must say that I wish I was sitting on the beach at Sequanota Club today----but, I will be at a fun BBQ and pool party for the Fourth!
