My post for the June challenge is an 18" x 18" oil painting, Floral. My inspiration for the painting was a beautiful arrangement that was sent to my daughter for her college graduation a few years ago. Invitation to my Show

My friend Ann Hardy and I have a two man show opening Feb. 9th from 6:00 - 8:00 in the Chan Sun Library on the campus of Southwestern Adventist University. The show runs from the 9th -23rd of February. The address is 101 W. Magnolia, Keene, TX 76059. I think Ann will have at least 20 oil paintings and I will have 14 bronze sculptures. A Place to Dream is an original oil painting based on the Adirondack chair in my back yard retreat. With a little artistic license, I grew bunches of wild poppies and Blackeyed Susans, and changed my red chair to blue especially for this painting. I painted this from a photograph I took in New York City. This lady was crossing the street with her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I liked the dark shadows of a sunny, summer day in the city and the dog's bright white tail wagging with excitement. She was walking in the direction of Central Park, as was I, and I think the dog knew exactly where they were headed.

This contemporary oil painting is finished, signed and drying at the studio. I put some finishing touches on it yesterday, and it should be good and dry for the Texas Discovery Gardens Exhibit. I love to work on series of paintings, so I will be doing some more Nest Paintings for the exhibit. I was also able to almost complete the chocolate lab and landscape commission pieces. "Blue Heron" by Gwen Bell

These beautiful birds are so elegant and so lovely
to watch. Although they are called Blue Herons, their
color is actually more of a gunmetal gray that catches
the light and reflects the blue of the water.

A large number of them, and their snowy
White Egret cousins, live at White Rock Lake near
my home. The Blues are more common in East Texas.
There is a family that nests and feeds along the shore
at my son's lake house at Lake Tawakoni. They allow
us to approach within 15 feet. I am always struck by
how large they are up close!

I wanted to do a painting showing pristine plumage.
Right now the Herons and other native birds and wildlife
are fighting for their lives on the Gulf Coast. I pray that
as many as possible will be saved along with the marshlands
that they call home.
