When looking through some on-line mugshots for this month's theme, I ran across this guy who seems to  be a dead ringer for Santa. It made me stop to think that I haven't seen the jolly ole man lately in any of the stores or malls. Hummm, does Santa have a crew cut?

Painted from a photograph taken at a farmer's market in Mont Eagle, Tennessee.  Bought some honey at this outdoor market, does that count for the "bees" in our October theme of "birds and bees"!

Blue, blue, my world is blue...and white...and yellow...and a touch of red! As a collector of blue and white china and pottery, you mention the color blue and these china pieces come to mind.

The timing of the "upside down" theme for the month of July is just perfect since I just painted this watermelon painting for the Daily PaintWorks blog. The weekly challenge was to paint from a photograph but do it upside down (the photo, not the artist). Amazing that when you do this, you concentrate more on shapes and spacial differences rather than on objects. When you finally finish and flip the painting, wow, what a surprise! A great exercise, give it a try!  

By the way, "Happy First Birthday" to Some Texas Artists Like to Paint! Hard to believe that we started this blog one year ago!

Saw this precious child while out shopping one day and her grandmother agreed to let me take her photo. The camera came out and she immediately started playing "patty cake". Think we could do a whole blog just on children.

Our theme this month is full/empty. In this still life setup, the apples would only fill a part of the glass container, so guess it's half full...or is it half empty?

Oh, dear it is official, I am not a flower painter. I attempted a few this week, all wipe outs and one so bad, I just threw it in the trash. As I wailed and threw fits, my sweet husband very confidently suggested, "just paint like Nancy Medina". As you know it doesn't quite work like that, but I do like that a few posts down she refers to a glass of wine, now that I can do.

Ann Rogers encouraged me to post this painting. She and I went out last spring together and painted one day in the Turtle Creek area of Dallas. Each Spring the azaleas put on a show and just scream paint me, so we did!

The Dallas Lunch Ladies!

From left to right, Gwen, Ann, Angela (me), and Nancy had lunch at an awesome Vietnamese restaurant. Even with my GPS I could not find the restaurant, thanks to Nancy for the detailed step by step directions or else I'd still be driving around Addison looking and searching for these 3 very talented artists. After lunch, Ann suggested we visit Southwest Gallery and off we went on an incredible adventure. You could hear us oohing and aahhing over and over, and you might as well know we had to be pried away from several paintings. Please check out SW's site and make sure you look at John Cook and Xiang Zhang's incredible paintings (my personal favorites), I promise you will not be disappointed!

It was a great afternoon filled with a lot of joy and laughter; thank you lunch ladies! We are planning on doing it again soon, and hope Kay and Linda can join us next time.
