No Comfort Zone by Kay Wyne

No Comfort Zone
6" x 6" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Wow, this challenge really challenged me. I did everything with my left hand....the hardest thing for me was mixing the paints. I do not like to use straight oils out of the tube. I started putting colors and shapes on the panel, and found that I had two women and dog floating here in this painting. It was a good exercise....and NO COMFORT ZONE was present. Kay

Old Kachina Doll

5 x 7
oil on canvas
Here is another of my Hopi kachinas for the tool theme. As I said in my last post, kachina dolls are tools the Hopi Indians use to teach their children about the Hopi religion, This is an old doll that I received as a birthday present.

Cactus Buds by Sharon Hodges, 11x14

I may be pushing the edge of our definition of 'flowers' this month, but I love cactus in bloom, especially the moment just before the pods burst open with the yellow flowers. That's when I painted this one...the yellow flowers are pushing their way out and will soon be screaming for attention. Now, they are just a whisper. Wigs by Kay Wyne

Wigs
18" x 18" oil on gallery wrap canvas
SOLD
This painting evolved with a painting challenge. Karin Jurick has a blog, Different Strokes From Different Folks. Every two weeks she posts a photograph, and artists are invited to paint or draw interpretations of that photograph. I think that there were about 75 artists who participated in this challenge. The photograph for the inspiration for this painting is a Wig Shop window. A couple of fellow studio partners painted this also, and we agreed that it was a challenge as we grumbled and painted. My painting ended up with some angles, and abstract. This painting could be in one of my colorful dreams...abstract, out of focus, bright colors, and interesting shapes. This painting is sold, and currently hangs in College Station, Texas. Thanks for viewing this blog! Kay

Horizon Series: Abstract 1023 by Kay Wyne

Horizon Series: Abstract 1023 - SOLD
Here is another Horizon Series Painting....This 18" x 18" Gallery Wrap Canvas has color, lines, shapes and texture. The oil paints were pushed around with palette knives and brushes. I am posting this painting because I dream about color. I don't know if I am a colorist or not, but I love color. (I need to research the definition of a colorist...maybe a good subject for my next posting on my blog!) All of my art is full of color - it could be an abstract, a landscape, an animal portrait or mixed media. I love color! If you are interested in viewing more of my art, please go to my blog:
